2011 Subaru Forester 2.0.Boxer engines? You can not speak of a curiosity – not a top 10 brand in the U.S. uses – but they’re not exactly mainstream. The next of the boxer has come to that in the ’60s, when the VW Beetle in the country importing more super-dominant and GM offered a more general alternative to the bow in the elegant form of the Chevrolet Corvair restless.
But come with Subaru of a record year with 263,820 cars sold in the U.S. in 2010, the Boxer enjoying a modest renaissance of the 21 Century. Now the Japanese automaker is launching the third generation boxer engine – the first of the company’s flat-4s was published way back in 1966. Designated FB (for “Fuji Future” in the native parent Fuji Heavy Industries “), this engine will replace the retiring EJ finally engine since 1989.
Subaru’s wish for an entirely new FB-series engine improvements, including environmental performance (she claims best-in-class CO2 emissions of the 2.0-liter in this European-spec Built in 2011 Forester), better fuel efficiency and improved driveability. And the key to all this, a longer stroke, the Subaru was involved, would force without the physical size of the engine, costly changes to its car body structures to achieve. And this is no small challenge.
The longer stroke results in an engine whose bore and stroke are, in contrast to the very square EJ replaced long stroke. This approach is about improving the efficiency and torque at low speeds, because the resulting combustion chambers are compact and suffering so that less heat. In other words, during combustion, a larger proportion of fuel energy to do useful work in the cylinders is converted. Reducing the size of the heads has forced the narrow valve angle and the use of roller rockers, cam followers, and they are supported by a fully open variable valve timing.
Internal friction by 28 percent, is reduced thanks to massive reductions of the rods and pistons. Cylinder distortion through improved production processes are reduced and adjustments to the cooling circuits are independent of the block and head, provide more uniform cooling, especially around the cylinder sleeves. This ensures that the holes cylindrical stay, if the engine has reached operating temperature, the improvement of the rings “sealing properties. The roller rockers cam gear and oil pump, which corresponds more to lubricate the engine claims to further reduce friction and parasitic power .
We have the new FB-boxer in a Euro-spec 2011 Subaru Forester 2.0 XS, who also gets a new grille for 2011, to try, along with new side mirrors and revised 17-inch alloy wheels. Subaru has also played with the suspension tuning to improve cornering stability and reassuring while driving.
You must keep your momentum with the way the 2011 Subaru Forester 2.0 drive and the compact crossover well-tuned suspension that makes it easy. This year’s suspension tweaks have rounded corners with surprisingly little effect. Controlling the unusual for a precise SUVs, in turn, confidence and sure-footed all-wheel-drive traction, and you can rewardingly robust cross-country progress. The impressive body control not to come at the expense of comfort or, if our Subaru Forester 2.0 ice damaged roads increased by a quiet smoothness.
For now there is no denying that this is a better boxer engine as the old EJ is still found in most U.S. markets, Subaru – and pay tribute to FHI engineers who put these improvements within the same physical envelope.
